Exclamation Short Seat Belts!

As most of you will know I've got an AUDI80 TDI Estate B4-series.

As part of my new job I will now frequently have to bring Service Users (The politically correct word for patients at the moment!) with me.

Today I had a Service User who was to big to fit the seat belt! And I REALLY tried! But there was still about 10 inches too little of the seat belt!

Are they then exempt?
Do seat belt extensions exist? Not too sure the NHS would pay anyways.

if they can't fit within yer seat belt, I'd be looking at uprating the suspension before letting them get in the car!

Yes they do try Quick fit. There about 10" long and you just push it in to your own seatbelt clip and then your belt into it.

On a serious note which is what you are asking.....There is no exemption for being too big.
However, if that is the case get their GP or medical professional to issue a seat belt medical exemption certificate to be on the safe side.

The onus is on the passenger, so long as they are an adult, to wear a belt, if they dont then they commit the offence not you, however, if they are under your control and care then you could commit the offence of carrying a passenger in a manner likely to cause injury.

I think the easiest solution would be to either to say no for safety reasons or get the medical certificate issued.

By the way, make sure your insurance is aware that you are using your vehicle for this purpose as that is not SDP......Just in case something goes wrong (hopefully not)

Cheap way of lowering your car

Do motor manufacturers build cars to handle crash tests beyond accepted belt size, that's the question....

That belt length I suspect is also the limit to the manufacturers liabilities within crash worthiness...

A Shire Horse strapped into the passenger side front seat is unlikely to merit substantial compensation claims.
