Been at it since 7.30 this morning!
Rear brakes done. The original discs and pads were shagged, offside caliper all rear pipes and the load valve have all been replaced relatively recently and are spot on. Nearside rear caliper is orignal and the cylinder cover is mangled but the caliper is good to go otherwise. New seal kit in the post! The caliper mounts are original, the grease in the pins is bone dry (I've got the correct stuff there) but fine otherwise. Wheel bearings are all good also. Rear shocks are on, other than accessing the top nut an easy job on this, the absence of rust is remarkable, everything is coming off easily. Painting the wheel bolts is on my LOTTD! The fronts are nearly new Pagid discs and pads, they just required a clean and put back together, offside front caliper is also fairly new, the bleed nipples on all 4 are the later 11mm size and break free easily (turned out the nearside front is actually stripped so new caliper in the post!) on the whole a result. Shocks are all OEM Boge and are all knackered! They have little/no resistance in them despite being gas shocks. They may well be the originals so owe nothing at 200K The KYB's come with their own take on the top cap for the fronts, it's much easier to deal with. progress! The whole south coast/no salt thing. Its a much better starter classic than my 90 was on its current condition. |
