Here you go Ray...

Pictures early and late alloy engine block

on this side of the block we will have to mod a engine mount bracket to fit the block as the bolt holes dont match , but strangley they do line up on the other side

this is the alloy block i recently sold ,its the one i bought from the late gary midwinter. this part of block was apprx 20mm thick where the starter fits. also standard engine mount brackets fit both sides of this block

on the imsa block its more like 28mm, apparently the early blocks kept breaking in this area

garys old block, note webbing

imsa

garys

imsa

imsa is 81m bore standard

Well that's the post of the year so far! Some serious history there! The imsa block is a thing of beauty, where did you manage to come across that?

I hope these latest modifications help get the car where you want it to be!

Default me rallying

hi all thanks for your support my web site aint much good im not much cop on a computer. my passion is rallying after several years rallying a mk2 escort,mk2 golf gti, and a 3dr cosworth sierra i had owned 6 standard ur quattros 3 WR,2MB,1RR. in 2000 i was one of the lucky 50 to drive my RR to germany with the uk quattro owners club it was a fantastic quattro experiance . on one of the many posh meals audi laid on i was sat at a table with phil short ,audi ex works navigator he came on the trip to germany in his own red RR , i told him my plans to build and rally a quattro and have spoken to him a few times since. i even invited him to navigate for me at one of the EPYNT rallys [proper event in wales] he declined as he had other things arranged. the first time i went to Epynt in the quattro we rolled but lucky for us and the car it landed on its wheel with hardly any damage ,but we were out of the rally, the next time i drove fast but with much caution as i had learnt a lot more about this venue , infact not many drivers havnt rolled there , it bites. we finished 30th o/a which i was over the moon with as you are up against many locals who have done this event 20 or 30 times plus some of the roads are public so can be practiced often [if your local] ,also my service van broke down so we didnt even get a chance to do the . recce . after the rally we left the audi and broken down van with my freind chris jones [ he is a welsh rally champioin in his one off subaru powerd ford focus ] he also lent us a road car to get home that night ,4hr trip. on getting home at 1am i went straight to work , im a milkie [fastest in the south] after the milk round i went to sleep for 3 or 4 hrs them drove back to wales [4hrs]with my wife following so that i could return chriss car then we drove back home to southampton [4hrs] allthis in less than 24hrs . ive wrote this on the forum just to show you the passion and dedication i have for rallying , ive got lots of other mad rally storeys maybe another time . in total we have won around 20 class awards 2005 >2013 and have come 1st in class twice in the acsmc tarmac championship 2008 and 2013 . The imsa engine block cost me almost £5k as a bare block but i had to have it , all the top mk2 escorts run millington alloy blocks nowadays £20k + so if i can build the imsa for £10k incl buying the the block i think its cheap ,plus its what was meant to be fitted into a rally quattro. saving 25kg in the process. my target is to get the car down to 1100kg but have some way to go , id guess its going to be 1140kg with imsa fitted but have not weighed the car for several years

Default rays rally quattro with alloy block

bit of an update . i recently had the alloy block line bored [ was a un-used new block ] got new end caps made with extra bolt fixings to hold them in place , got new 10-1 je pistons, block almost ready to start assembling. will be switching from rs2 motronic [sold] to motec m800 recently purchased from keith at dialynx -3kg saved with new ecu loom and lighter ecu . my target is to save 50kg -25kg new alloy block, -3kg steel sump rather than alloy, -6kg remove front roll bar [ i beleave the works cars didnt run one up front so thought i will give it a try] -2kg pair front struts, -1kg removed from camcover, gearbox rear mount, rear prop flange, and a few bits cut off gearbox casing. weight saving parts still to get > lithium battery -9 kg , light weight alternator -3kg i make that 52kg my navigator also loosing weight his target is to loose 15kg , ive worked out that the car will be 6% lighter with driver and navigator , also with the new fresh engine and motec we should have 6 > 10% more power
