Default CAD questions...nowt to do with cars...yet

CAD as in design software, not a dastardly gent with ungentlemanly qualities.

I'm working towards a self build project, having been buying up a few bits of land recently. I was thinking about trying to illustrate my design ideas using CAD. I normally tend to do things a bit old-skool, with fag-packet sketches.

Anyone here familiar with such things, either from a self-build gifted amateur POV, or a professional.

I'm hoping there is something inexpensive (free being ideal)

Google sketchup is free and would suit your needs.

I've been using Inkscape to sketch out some repair section templates as my originals are getting a bit tattered. I particularly wanted something that could print things larger than A4, as tiles that I can stick together. Inkscape will save as a PDF, and the PDF reader will do that, with registration marks, so it did the job.

I suspect Sketchup is better, I can't remember why I didn't go for it.

I shall take a look at both. I should have mentioned that I would be using iPad, and MacBook.
