The plot thickens.....
Had two replies from immobiliser companies. One from Autotronics in Leicester who seem to have extensive options for Audi immobilisers, new keys etc. They say if I send the immobiliser box they can make a new transponder chip for me. £120 plus vat. Another company CarKeyHelp has said that the transponders didn't come in until mid '95..... My cables for VagCom have arrived I am going to plug the old girl in and see what she can tell me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just build an emulator box using the box you have and an ebay chip at £1.99 and 5 mins of soldering. Well documented issue with proven solution.
If you want to reinstall the setup just hunt in scrap yards at your leisure for megmos ID13 keys there are loads about and then recode to them you have vagcom so no problem. |

Thanks Gib I've had a look at that.
Did some more work last night. Removed all the injectors and checked they were flowing fuel, which they were. Did some checks on the immobiliser. Locked the car and the red triangle in the fog light switch flashes several time quickly then settles to a steady flash every second or so. Unlocking the car the light stops flashing. If I remove fuse 4 I can start the car without fuse 19 in place. Hoping I can get vag com workin tonight, trawled through loads of guides on setting the com ports etc but it still won't pair with the lead Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The speed of the flash generally indicates if you have turned the microwave on / off.

I'm pretty sure the old immobilizers where wired through the central locking pump on that model and not the ecu. If so I don't think vag come will read it.
Does it immobilizer the starter, ignition or fuel pump? If it's the starter I'd look at bypassing it and fitting an after market cat 2 immobilizer or decent alarm . |

Vag-Com reads the Central locking pump.

Thanks Megsy. That would make sense if it's through the pump.
Got VagCom to connect las night the only stored fault code was for the crank sensor, whether or not it's from when I unplugged it I don't know, it wasn't logging it again. New one on order. It immobilises the fuel pump and the starter at the moment, although sometimes the fuel pump will prime with fuse 19 in place, other times it doesn't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As Megsy says VagCom doesn't recognise there being a central locking function as part of its diagnostics on this car.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this model of the circuit powered by fuse 19? If the problem is caused by the pickup in the door lock it should be fixable? Also, if this car doesnt have an immobiliser then is it difficult to swap the ECU? Can VagCom do any coding work if needed? Cheers |
