If you have one of the first versions of the Haynes manual for the C3 look at page 269.

There is a nice exploded view of the SLS system.
As far as I can remember, that diagram in the Hayes manual is the same one as in ETKA so someone here might be able to supply you with a copy of the page if you're stuck.

I looked into changing my 200 SLS once when I had a leaky strut, but decided against it mainly because it was nearly as difficult finding standard suspension parts and the cost was nearly the same for conversion as for fixing.

If you do change from SLS, keep all your old serviceable parts because they are extremely difficult to find these days.

Thank you gentlemen for all your efforts here.

Yes, the leak is coming from that central pivot thingy.

The info on the brake pressure regulator is useful. My mechanic and I first thought about re-directing the hydraulic fluid feed from the valve directly to the brake regulator and create a return line all via the manifold near the rear near side pressure reservoir. My mechanic was worried about the pressure going to the regulator under this set up.

Anyway, my mechanic seems more pissed off at Audi's prices than I am and he is determined to find a way around this problem. He will be taking the car next week and removing the valve to have a good look at it. We'll decide what to do next from there.

Again, thank you everyone for your help and interest here.......

Thanks Steve, but that part is actually working properly.

If they had a suspension regualtor valve for that sort of money it would be great.

I know this sounds a bit noddy, but get the part number and google it. From doing this for hydraulic components although for braking there does appear to be a few US sites which have components and could be a cheaper alternative?

Also have you tried quattro corner for a price?

Thumbs up

Just tried Google.

Discovered autopartmaster.com. Looks like a Russian outfit.

They had a valve at over $1000 USD.

Just an update folks...... Some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that the valve seems to have stopped leaking. I'm closely monitoring the garage floor but every day that passes without a sign of any oil fills me with hope!

The other glimmer of hope that I have is my mechanic reckons he will be able to dismantle the valve itself and see if the problem is down to perished O rings or just requires a new part machined for it........ummmmm..

The bad news is my mechanic then fell over and injured his leg, so I'm gonna have to wait a little while he heals, but if by then it still isn't leaking then I guess I should just leave sleeping dogs alone.

Default Self leveling suspension help (type44 quattro)

hello gents,
I have been monitoring this posting for a few weeks...this is an issue which is at my heart as well.

I have a 1990 Audi 100 avant quattro ...with the same self leveling suspension.

I have been restoring the car for the last few months. Since about 2-3 months ago I was at the rear axel part of the car and came across the same area...my valve was leaking and was in BAD! shape.
I have gone to Audi and asked what this smaller then life valve costs over here (I am located on mainland Europe - Luxembourg)....UHMUUU>....they wanted a dear ...666 Euro....Evil indeed.
I can confirm in fact Audi wants rob you stiff for this valve.

THEN...I came across an idea.
I have taken my valve successfully apart...watch OUT..the thing is spring loaded..The back end as shown in the picture from OVALKING here:

the back end in silver is a screwed in cap...and is pinched in place..to remove the cap you need to remove the pinches...and is difficult to see if the part is rusted.

Anyway I took the thing apart...Surprise!!! the thing is more simple then a child's 1950 toy, aside from the springs inside everything else is extremely simple...and they want 666 Euro!!!

OK I am not planning on spending that kind of money on a part which will go again...
SOOOOO...here is my idea...I make my own parts already for years...and this one is too simple not to do....so what about making one myself...but in stainless steel?
That is my plan right now.

My problem...is I need another valve ..the one I had was so damaged that I cannot use it as a reference to build anything.
Does anyone have one of these sitting around? anything at all?

I am taking about making a part out of high tech material and for a price ...anywhere between 50-70 Euro!!!!

All I need is a another valve to figure all this out...anyone?

Regards,
Paul Fernandes
