Default ...Cut my hand brake cable in half...Doh!

It was stupid, I shouldn't have done it, I regret greatly what I did etc etc

Anyhow I cut my NLA handbrake cable in half with a hack saw - clean cut.

Can it be reapired? I've heard you can crimp a metal sleeve on??

Its possible to do - best person to ask is your local friendly MOT tester, if it won't pass an MOT because you have crimped a brake cable together then you have a bit of an issue.

Obviously if its not crimped correctly it could be very extremely dangerous, don't think I would be too keen to see my pride and joy rolling down a hill out of control....

Though NLA in Europe, because the early Audi 200 was sold in the USA as the Audi 500 there are still lots of spares available there (they sold 85000 in the USA). I found a terrific website called http://www.rockauto.com who sell almost any spare for any car - really amazing! So have ordered a LH and RH hand brake cable - expensive postage but don't forget $2 to £1 at the mo!

I have to ask...
Why did you cut your handbrake cable..
Moment of madness? Sniffing paint thinners? Or a more sinister explanation?

The cable had corroded into the caliper and I needed to get the caliper off - I thought I could get a new cable...and I now have but from the USA!
