Default Ur quattro sunroof operation

Hi all,

Not sure if this a dumb question. When raising the sunroof (fully) on my ur, the crank handle does not align with the handle recess and so cannot be retracted.

Is this normal or am I getting restricted opening? The mechanism seems to be sliding as far as it can and the crank is lined up ok when closed so I know my starting position is ok.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

You should find there's enough slack in the system to turn the handle back the other way to retract it before the roof panel starts moving down. That's normal.

OK thanks Jim, that seems to make sense.

I'll check that out this afternoon when I finish refitting the sunroof.

Just verified on mine and it works like this:-

Starting with roof closed.
First half turn does nothing, second 1/2 turn lifts the roof. I can then put the handle into the recess as I've done one full turn.

Starting with roof open.
First whole turn does nothing, second half turn closes roof. The handle is then towards the back of the car, so I have to turn it half a turn back the other way to park it in the recess.

Hi Jim

That's very different to mine, checked it out earlier today before doing some other work.
I have very little "free" movement, from closed it starts to lift almost immediately and is fully open after a little more than half a turn.
If I return the crank to point to the back of the car, (so now at one half-turn) the roof has already started to close, hence nowhere to park the handle.
In addition, the mechanism does nor seem to lock in the open position in any way which makes it difficult to re-install the panel - any downward pressure to engage the locking pins results in the mechanism sliding to the closed position.
All just seems a little wrong to me.

Thanks for checking yours, always good to have a point of comparison.
Now if I could only find that grommet from the air filter box that I dropped this afternoon.................its got to be down there in the engine bay somewhere!!

Mine works as you describe, with no park position. Although, I've not played with it for a while, so my memory might be off...

Can you say that legally on here........?? lol

Could be a bit too much information there!!

Thanks for your input, maybe mine is "normal" which would save me adding another job to the restoration list.
Could it be year specific differences??

I was thinking about year related updates, too. Mine is a late 85 build.

When I get a moment, I'll check for certain
