I'm thinking 2k if you were after a nice, clean, low mileage example of an Audi from the late 80's.
I wonder what the garage gave for it??

That's an awful lot of money for a bog standard 80, wasn't the S a carburettor engine? It's very clean though.

I am going to disagree.
I think that the B3 is more iconic than the B2. The same with the Typ44/C3 100 against the C2 (flush glazing/CD Factors etc) . They are far more of the era when Audi were very much 'Vorsprung Durch Technic', along with the Ur quattro.
They will be desirable one day.
The same applies to the original A4.
The earlier Audi 80/100s were nothing special in comparison with the exception of the original 100 Coupe S/200 5T.
Opinions?

I'm going to counter your disagreement with my own. No doubt I'm immediately wrong, but I'm used to that.
The B3 tended to look boring externally, so it needs something to lift it. Would this car have any redeeming qualities? Being uniquely uninteresting doesn't count.

I would argue that the B3 80/90 looked anything but boring on launch in '86/'87. The interior was the start of the Audi dominance in car interior design.
It made it's rivals the E30 3 series and Merc 190 look old hat overnight.
The ridiculous boot and mediocre driving characteristics were more of an issue, along with the high purchase price. £20k for a 90 quattro in '87 was a pisstake. The same car was £3k cheaper within 18 months of launch.
Whilst undeniably flawed, it was a ground breaking design in it's day.
The same can't be said for it's earlier configurations, or it's successors.

No arguments from me, since I got my first B3 90 in 2002 it has never failed to amaze me how such a well made, good looking, easy to maintain, great sounding, capable everyday car has escaped more widespread appreciation and still languishes in relative obscurity!!! Surely its day must come?
