Back in 83-84 I can remember wanting a Haro Sport or a Diamondback badly. Some well to do implant in our neighborhood had the best of all of them.
In the end I built a "rat rod" out of a used Hutch frame and fork set, some 48 spoke Peregrine wheels that had to be straightened, a older simple black quilted seat, and upgraded aluminum pedals. The head set was blue anodized, all the frame bits were flat black, and I think the lower flat BMX handle bars came off a Huffy ( awful bikes in the US).
I remember getting Dad to retrofit a longer seat post as my legs began to stretch.

Good times.

Car fantasies began full force by 1985. VW's, Audis and Porsches, with the occasional leering at the Maserati Ghibli

I nearly had a Mongoose but had a purple Chopper instead, I loved that bike, I never knew what happened to it which is a shame as it would be worth a fortune now.
Never mind, I have a second purple Chopper just for the missus Rarely get to use it though
Retro bikes are so much better than the standard ones produced today unless you spend big bucks, hence me just buying an 80's 10 speed Racer to do up and commute on.
Thats a lovely bike you have there and as for picking bargains up at the tip or "recycling centre", its great, its amazing what people throw away.
