was the old battery tested ?
While driving you lost your 12v dc voltage or it dipped low. Was the alternator charging the battery ? When you turn the ignition on you should get the red light battery symbol come on before you try and start ? If that's not on there is a fault either with the alternator or the blue charge wire. Check the the alternator can be turned freely by hand with no belt. You can manually test the starter although it can be a bit hairy with the leads close together. that would bypass the ignition switch circuitry. It's safer to remove the starter to test it. Disconnect the battery first before undoing the wiring to the starter. I'd be more inclined to suspect an alternator issue based on the symptoms you had while driving

Update.
Thanks to all for the helpful replies. The problem was the starter motor which has been replaced no thanks to Audi main dealer who gave me the reply, ''Sorry been discontinued''. The replacement was not easy as everything was in the way. I still am confused as to why a knackered starter would cause the electrics to fail for a second when traveling. |

good to see you're sorted.
I'm the same as you which is why I suspected an alternator issue. Once the car is started and the solenoid is disengaged, it should sit dormant and do nothing. I can only think of it draining current away causing the voltage to drop which is why you got cutouts.
