Default Future Talk

Just been watching an interview on C4 with the inventor of the internet. When asked what he envisioned for the future, among other things things, he thought the cost of television screens would get lower and we could have entire buildings covered by them.

It made me think the future may be more like something out of Bladerunner.

Life has got generally better for us compared to our Victorian ancestors, but are we getting happier?

as when I was working for big IT company - IBM / Lenovo people said - all hardware (pc, laptops, etc) will be for free in future and we will pay only for software and using all stuff. it means, all them techologies will be everywhere...
look at new BMW i3.. You can heat it up from Your phone before journey

I love sci-fi, and over the years you get the naysayers proclaiming it to be rubbish; a waste of time.

Imagine if the folk driving technology were as limited and fettered! Although, sometimes, that might be a good thing

The likes of Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury, etc had all manner of tech in their novels from the 1950s onwards, including-

Foldaway, pocketsize, touch screen computers
Electric transport
Widespread clean energy (just gloss over 3mile island, Fukoshima, and Chernobyl for now)
Recreational space flight
Robots in the home
industry rather than government, as big brother

The list goes on

Currently, (relatively) self cleaning glass is a commercial reality, so it can't be long before windows themselves will become screens. They already exist to some extent. All you need do is embed the display as a layer.
You'll have Anglian windows providing advertising in their glass, and you'll pay extra to have it deactivated. (It won't all be nice)

I think in the near future, we will get mobile phones/communications as a surgical implant, and as an off shoot, hearing aids will be improved.

the question is, are we over complicating our life because of it or has everything become so much easier?

personally, i think that technology is over complicated and as far as phones are concerned, gives us devices that we don't really need.

desert island for one, please.
