Default DIY Camper conversion..

So anyone done it!? Just about to embark on Mk 3, Mk 1 and 2 were too small!

Looks a mine field but it's an interesting project to do, all skills at the ready, timber working, electrics, plumbing, going for a solar panel or two this time, and a bog! (wife wants one as the kids stop us every ten minutes when we're on the road.)

Looked at mini busses - void idea, deleted, most of them are too heavy unless I sit another test.

7.5 tonner - void - deleted, unworkable on single track roads and ferries and tolls would kill you! And I'd need another test!

Small Japanese 4x4 campers - nice but over priced and too small and we already tried that one!

Really want a 4x4 base but they're all inflated in the price department these days unless you buy something reallly old, like 1970's old!

Old VWs - Void, too rusty and too predictable.

Will update but may go crafter.

Mk 2 is this thing, (if I can get any image hosting sites to work!) works great and drives up mountains, easier than setting a tent up but just tooo small now... someone could have told me that children stretch over time..

Wow, just discovered you can get them already for a Freelander.

I'd better remember to pull my hand brake on firmly. And not park too close to the edge of the cliff. Other than that happy days!

Looked at them and looking at maybe a pickup and roof tent because buying a van is a fekn minefield of a nightmare!

Currently winding up a scammer from gumtree who is a 'divorced surgeon who is selling their ex-husbands van because - I sell at this price because I need money to leave UK [sic]. Apparently on a training program [sic] in Germany and wants me to instigate a £4K escrow transaction and have the van delivered to my door within 48Hrs.

Aye right...

Amazes me that people have no shame.

Ooo babay.. MK3 on the drive. 2006 convoy with 37k miles, virtually rust free even underneath, for 1500 bucks. 2.4 duratorq, currently sealing bulkhead leaks and tightening finger tight nuts that have never been tightened, not even in the factory. ffs ldv.. come on.. no wonder the went tits up. So I finally own a piece of classic British engineering. The leaf spring setup looks tough as old boots but the dashboard and switches etc. my god it's all so cheap and nasty! I'm amazed if all that stuff even worked properly from new.

Was looking at them, banana engine! Just too heavy at 3.8T, I passed my test after 1997 so I can only drive up to 3.5T without sitting a £2K driving test.

That's a pity because they're a lot of van for not much money.

Where did you go for that quote?

My Category D PCV test only cost me about £100 in 2009 and currently the cost of the test is £65 for a LGV plus any additioanl costs for the CPC (if you need it) - I don't because I don't drive the bus "professionally".
