A good friend of mine - David Blakesley, a farmer in my home village of Isham - was out on his land late one evening with a double-barreled 12-bore. I don't know exactly what he was after, but the cartridge load could best be described as 'deer'.
He had a small milking herd - about twenty beasts, some of which were pregnant. Two Salukis appeared and started worrying the cattle. David is a pretty good shot. He was sued by the owners for £2000 per animal. The judge (I think it was Northampton Crown Court) threw the case over the wall and awarded David costs and damages - he even asked how much each cartridge had cost and added them to the bill. |

Very funny its very frustrating a dog that won't recall,a terrier i had just got ,first time out, legs it after a load of sheep and would not recall, but chased sheep around and around, yiping its head off, i ran after it and only got its attention by throwing a lump of wood in its direction, had to jump on it to get it,I was certainly at boiling point!

Reminds me of walking across a field close to the village where I lived, myself, wife n young kids with our Weimaraner on a load.
Local old duck-head Clampitt look-alike comes other way with his very nasty Alsatian which wasn't on a lead. His dog attacked my pup, and the only way I could get it off was to give it a good shoeing (unfortunately for said Alsatian I was wearing steel toecap safety boots). Clampitt started bleating about cruelty to his dog, so I offered to a/ show him personally what cruelty really meant, and b/ a rematch between me vs Alsatian. Needless to say he didn't take up my kind offer but we had to sell the pup as it was that traumatised that, living in a village of 10-12 houses the other dig was always about as we're other 'farm' dogs. And the local dog warden...? Waste of space. "ah well", he says "you do live in a farming village, do its only to be expected and if I took away every farm dog.... Yada, yada yada". |
