Default Charity Run To The Gambia!

Hello all and welcome to this thread.

I have been asked to start this thread to chart progress of our 'banger' charity run from the UK to The Gambia in January 2011. Being an Audi fan, we have bought a LHD 1987 100 1.8 (Type 44) on Swedish plates for the adventure. It was a snip at £102 on e-bay and, it drove the 70 miles back to my home without a hitch!

In the mean time, we have a blog set up which I invite you to follow. We will be posting updates here regularly, as well as to this forum.

Be back soon...

There are two charities; one is Help For Heroes and the other is Naomi's House Children's Hospice:

It was luck more than anything else...not many left-hookers in the UK for £100. We have done some work on the car already but it's all been fairly straightforward:

- new water pump (and removal of the thermostat)
- new belt
- new exhaust (centre pipe)
- a service (oil change, oil and air filter, plugs, rocker cover gasket, ignition leads)
- some body work repair
- rear number plate lights and fog light wiring problem (now fixed)
- all door cards have been off to fix opening/ closing and locking mechanisms |(only one door could be opened at first)

Just the driver's seat to fix now as it rocks a bit and probably will rise the MoT tester's eyebrows!

good idea until you suck in a load of sand and given that you have to go through Senegal to get to the Gambia which is about 90%, it'll clean yer engine if nothing else!

It'll be an adventure to remember if nothing else. Lovely country especially for bird spotting. Went there about 25 years ago and I doubt much has changed! Bet they're still riding around in Peugeot 504 taxi's!!
Remember bribing the Passport control man the equivalent of £5.00 to let us in to Senegal as well as we hadn't got a visa!

Yeah, I went about 3 years ago and you're absolutely right!

A forum sponsorship is a terrific idea (they are worthy causes). I wouldn't know how to set that up. Would appreciate some help, if you wouldn't mind.
