Ah yes, the other was Valeo and the OEM.
MSH mentioned the Behr, it's £20, is that a gamble ??

I don’t know is the answer, Nissans are good quality but it’s your dosh!!!

Behr are part of the Hella group and should be fine

I’ve asked GSF to get their one down here from Birmingham, he seemed to think it is a Hella one at £35, so I’ll go with that if it is.

GSF are usually excellent from my experience of them.
The combination of the matrix and foam will restore your heater nicely.
Going to do an antifreeze change as well or is that fresh?

Taking the seats out is easy (one 10mm nut/bolt) and does make access a lot easier.
Take it out in a Saturday morning, an hour to strip out the matrix and do the flaps, get the box back into place Saturday afternoon/early evening, dash back in on Sunday. Well earned beer watching Top Gear on Sunday night.

The only advantage, if any, that could be had by removing front seats is if it's being done in narrow garage, where you can open just one door. In return, after seats are out, you don't have seats on which to sit while doing the work...

Behr back in the day was audi OEM for radiators - and, for example, for B series 5 pot radiator was made correctly only by Behr - the rest of manufacturers made them with a couple of outlets slightly out of place. Unfortunately heater matrixes today for these old audis are being made by them in their china factory, not french one, but let's hope on quality control.

I've heard a lot that nissens aren't very good anymore...

In any case my aim was not to scare anyone - I've put some cheap stuff [polish/chinese] in a few cars, works fine if there aren't way too few ribs...

As was mine but the most expensive of the replacement options.

And they only last circa 30 years.

Yeah - when someone complains about procedure of heater matrix change, I remind that it's work that usually has to be done once in lifetime of a car - and that's the situation over here; in the west likely most of the cars sold went to the press before heater matrix failed...

As for the life of heater matrix, I agree. Original heater matrix of my mk2 golf, which turns 29 tomorrow, blew up two years ago, due to increased pressure in cooling system - currently there's mk3 original matrix inside, as I happened to have AC kit from late mk3 on my shelf... My mothers mk3, 25 years old at the moment, received new heater matrix last year. My audis weren't so fortunate - heater matrix of A80 failed when it was 20 years old or even newer - no idea about A90q, but it had some strange heater matrix when I got it, so apparently was changed.
