I had a ground run on Just Jane for my 40th, one of Uncles was a flight engineer on these in 617 after the Dams raids (been there as well!) and dropped a few tall boys/grand slams in his day.

I bet that was awesome, all of it. My dear long departed step Grandad used to load the lanc bomb bays when he was stationed in Lincolnshire during the war. Thats how he met my Nan who's now 95 and still with us.

My Grandad was a gunner with 617 Squadron, after the dambuster raid too, he always wore a blazer with the squadron badge instead of a suit when he dressed posh.

I have admit the sound of a merlin engine always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Yep definitely heard that, was out in the garden and heard a plane making a very strange noise.
They fly over Ascot,,Bracknell, Reading area after take off ( depending on wind direction).
The BBMF Lanc has very recently been U/S and was having a new engine fitted.

That is City of Lincoln and belongs to BBMF, there are only two airworthy Lancaster's, the other one is Canadian, Just Jane only does taxi runs as it is still being sorted hopefully to fly once more

Seen both of the Lancasters fly over RAF Marham last year during Families Day flying in formation with the Vulcan while I was there maintaining the Tonka's at the time. I thought the BBMF Lancaster was called Thumper.

Yep and they both parked up at the airport here for an overnight stay we got a few displays from them.

As far as the name goes the aircraft's official name is City of Lincoln, this is because in 1975 she was formally adopted by the City of Lincoln, if you look on the nose you will see the crest that is always there whatever guise the aircraft is wearing, it's registration can never be changed either which is PA 474. She has worn many identities over the years :-

Mike squared
Micky the moocher
Johnie walker

Those are just three i remember but there are more, Mike squared, PM-M2 was possibly her original code.
