Default Quattro Death? B4 2.8 Coupe

Hi guys,

Seriously #sadface right now as 30mins ago I just pulled out of a junction and I heard a loud grinding noise and total loss of power. I can get bite on the clutch, but as power is applied the grinding begins.

The engine is operating normally. The grinding noise is coming from the back of the car and sounds like the rear diff. I have only had the car a few weeks so haven't had a chance to look under it to see what is where etc.

I've still got to recover the car, but wondering what my best course of action is.. any advice, ideas or potential solutions will be greatly appreciated!?

Thanks

Hey

I'm no expert in these matters, but based on your own diagnostic, I did a quick google search and found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Diagnosing...9118033/g.html

Might help, might not, but it'll give you something to read whilst you await recovery of the car!

Thanks Leggy,

That's a really good article. Bookmarked I wish I had read it before. I recognise a clunk initially under harder acceleration and a rumbling noise.

Car recovered.

Is there a medical condition of how someone feels when their car is truly foobared!!?! I have this right now... blub blub

I think it's called 'gutted'...
BUT I dont see your car as being totally foobared It's just one of those things and all part and par of owning a Classic Audi, so get stuck in, get it fixed, and welcome to the club mate!

I have no doubt that someone on here will have a rear diff at the back of their garage.
If it is the rear diff then it's a lot simpler than the front, where are you based?

Try this... Start the car, lock the rear diff, put in gear and slowly let the clutch up(so it engages the did lock) if it moves, it's probably just a snapped cv joint

I didn't try this before, but I have just done this and it DOES drive..! Snapped CV joint sounds better than the Diff!

I'm in Reading, Berkshire MW.

Just don't hurt yourself doing this ^^^

A #sadface and a twisted neck (caused by contortionist movements) is simply 'not' a good look when driving a Classic Audi!

Thanks Sam for the pointer, I'll take a look tomorrow.

Leggy, I'll be careful and smack that #sadface off my face, man-up, fix the car and earn some Classic Audi stripes grrrrr..... something like that?
