Default Audi 100 89G revs dropping when downshifting

Hi,

I have a 89G 100 quattro with the NF engine (2309cc).

From cold, and when warmed up too, when I put the clutch down to change gear, the revs drop to 600rpm, and then stabilise at 800-820 ish. Very occasionally it will stall as the revs drop too far.

Also, the power steering gets heavier as the pump isn't being driven I guess.

Any ideas?

Steve

Is it just on cold or when she gets warm?

I had a similar thing on both my old 90 quattro and B3 Coupe 2.2 10v, but it was only when it was cold. the 90q seemed to almost stall momentarily a few times from cold start. I did post up a thread about this somewhere else about 12 months ago and I think the answer pointed to a few possibilities, one being the Air Flow meter, which more often than not, seems to be the root of many problems.

Where do you plug VAG-COM in on this car (ONLY JOKING!)

I've put it on Audifans too. My car may be too new! (once again, only joking). I consider this car to be a classic Audi, as it originally came out in 1982. I had the later 100 (J reg) but that is styled like a newer car.

However, it has the 5 pot engine.

Who thinks the best Audis were 80s cars? I would say this 89G 100 is more solid than our old 99V A4 avant......
