Rotor arm below with rev limiter built in, as the rotor arm spins getting faster and faster the centrifugal force acting on the rev limiter spring ( green circle ) allows the rev limiter plunger to move in direction of the red arrow and fires to a different cylinder. |

Does this version of CIS have a rev limit in the fuel pump relay?

That's the normal fail when a 4 cyl fuel pump relay is used in a 5 cyl car.
FPR should be in the main fuse box in the engine bay on an 87 ?

Relay is looking like it could be the culprit...interesting read. When I put my VRN into car parts websites it comes up as a 90hp model.

Ok, found it. The fuse box cover doesn't list it as that.

Is it a GT or Audi Coupe ?
What was the original engine as the 90hp 1.8 were never called GT. That was reserved for the 1.8i, 2.0i and 2.2i for the 87 cars.
