What was great about the one I had back in 2008 is that it was unrestored, never been off the road (see photo below - still with gold alloys!). The drive back though London during rush hour in a very tired 200 was crazy...but it made it! I do still have a few nice 5T bits lying around...

I like that bit of history

Would you have a fuel distributor by chance ?

It's definitely the fuel distributor? It's basically just a plunger which allows more fuel through isn't it? I thought they just cleaned them and replaced the rubber seals...should last more than 6 years!

There is a little bit more than that inside one if you open it up, the plate inside can cause a problem if contamination gets in there

Thinking about it, you had a problem with the fuel distributor if i remember correctly, yes ? I know you can get repair kits, but don't think i could manage to do that being a fumble fingers

I had both rebuilt but I don't think there was actually anything wrong with them - most Audi FI problems I've come across are pressure related. You could try here;

http://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/p/au...etronic-1.html

It was £250 for a rebuild back then...

When mine was rebuilt the car had been stood 20 years, this meant that the fuel distributor had emulsified fuel in it and the correct measure of fuel was not produced regardless of the pin position. I get what you are saying about fuel pressure and at the moment i have dry plugs with a very sooty deposit on them, the car will fire up and tick over for maybe 2 mins tops, then it cuts out and will not start again for hours, strange thing is it doesn't smell of fuel as if flooded so i am a little lost.
There could be another explanation that i will email you about.
