I've been advised I can do a b3 swap, 280mm ish fronts and rear disc conversion, is this right?

Of course this ends up at 4x108 but that's not too bad...

Read this thread with interest as I'm looking at a decent brake set up for my 80quattro.

Will be keep her 4 x 108 as I have a set of compomotive RF's for her, but they are off a Ford so have a slightly wider centre bore. Which brings me to the main question. How feasible would it be to utilise the front disks/calipers off an Escort Cosworth.
I have one in storage and can't see a size issue as they're not particularly large (in comparison with modern stuff anyway. Pretty sure the owner would be pissed off if I nicked his brakes though!

Am also looking to uprate the brakes on my '83 80q too.

Currently working on
Focus ST170 discs (300x25 and considerably cheaper than RS focus ones...) than have centre bore openned out 63 to 68mm
Audi A6 calipers which need caliper bracket making to fit original leg mounts.

Biggest problem seems to be finding 16" (or at a stretch 17") wheels to fit that aren't horrid.
Seems Ronals just don't come that big...
=> any ideas?

OK, so i have read through the thread, I'm hoping someone can give me some clarification so my model please.
81 B2 coupe GT5S, I believe I'm running 4x100 stud pattern with 57mm sgigot diameter - not sure of the offset??
Is the Golf G60 the largest and correct disc option for my car?
Addicted also states he's going to be running Wilwood Dynalite Calipers, I have no allegiance to any one manufacturer so if these best thats cool (Any comments) also mentioned a chap on Club GTI - "Chris Eyre" manufactures brackets to mount on Mk1 golf hubs - will these work on my car/hub??
If not what are my options? Do the manufacturer's supply brackets - I havent rung them yet to check ??

If anyone else has been down this road I would appreciate they're input as I cant afford to make many mistakes

Thanks Guys
Bry

Not sure why but work has been blocking this site for a few weeks...

What size discs do you have now? there's a good chance you already have 256's.. if you do these are valuable to mk1 golf owners, the calipers and carriers are worth £100 second hand.

You're brakes are interchangeable with mk1 golfs (76mm carrier mounts), so you could fit G60 280mm discs with Wilwoods like mine and Chris's adaptors, or any of the aftermarket kits intended for mk1 Golfs i.e http://www.compbrake.co.uk/index.php...&productId=673

Or cheaper still buy these adaptors: http://www.justcaddys.com/280mm_brake_adapters.html

Later 80's share the 95mm carrier mounts with the mk2 golf meaning bigger brakes are easier to source..

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,Thank you,Thank you, Thank you,

Your a legend, and your wealth of knowledge is too!!!
Thank you sooooo much for coming back to me on this. In your abcense I have been trying various motorsport suppliers and tryed getting hold of Chris Eyre - difficult without joining Club GTI and all sorts to find out more about the correct brackets and in one post you have sorted out all my brake issues
With out going out to the garage to double check, I'm sure the disc's are 256mm
Following your advice I am about to place an order for some Wilwood calipers and 280mm G60 discs and the associated bits with CONFIDENCE!!

Its really difficult to know where to go to get the right help - most people have never heard of our cars or they're specific needs, and if the details dont pop up on their computer screens they cant help, I'm finding my feet as I go along but on subjects like this people like you who have walked the path are invaluable to people like me having a go.

So again a massive Thanks for your advice

OK mate.. check the size of the discs and I can put an advert on the mk1 owners club forum for you if you want. (if they're 256's)

When you set 'associated bits' what do you mean? I was under the impression that Chris Eyre was the only person that made the adaptors...

Ok mate, when I said associated bits I meant brake lines and pads. However on speaking to Rally design they were offering a conversion kit to 280mm using the Wilwood Midilite calipers with (brackets/adapters) to suit??
Are these not the same things??

As for the original 256mm disc's and calipers, I have 2 sets one set in better condition than the other - in fact one pair of discs are Black Diamond vented and grooved and probably only covered a couple of thousand miles, off my donor car.

The Rally Design kit sounds great..
