Default Odd rev counter problem

I finally got round to wiring up the rev counter in my ABYed typ 85 90.

I touched the rev counter signal wire from pin 40 onto the rev counter wire directly missing out the VDO relay thing on the AUX panel and got idle up to 2000rpm where it then dropped to 0rpm till i let it drop below 2000rpm again.

I then plugged in the relay thing and got to 3000rpm and same thing happened.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm thinking you need a resistor between that wire and earth to work some magic with the voltage

the t85 clocks are designed for 5v or 12v (cant remember which) and the aby is the other

ask tonksy,he sorted mine
