My first company car was a 1993 SRi in gun metal grey. Complete with a built in car phone I thought I had died and gone to heaven the day it got delivered.

my dad had two as company cars in the 80s - one was white with a full red interior incl the dashboard!!
a dreadful car indeed. fortunately he only kept them for three years and then sold them on before the rust started showing through!

My dad had a number of chavaliers over the year as company cars, starting with a red c reg mk2 1.3L hatch, to a 1988 E688FHO blue 1.3gl hatch to a 1990 H393SNG 1.4l mk3 in red then onto a G reg saloon GLSi 2.0 when he got promoted onto finally a diamond black 2.0 glsi hatch.
No surprise then that amongst my 35 cars I had a chavalier, a 1995 N plate glsi 2.0 ecotec that I bought for £250, drove it for 15 months with it wanting nothing and sold for £250. One of only two cars I ever regret selling!

An old school mate of mine got a knackered Viva when he passed his driving test.
He soon needed something more reliable and got a Y reg Mk2 Cavalier hatchback 1.6L in that shade of blue that seemed to be on most Cavaliers in the mid 1980s. It was great value. The level of spec was good and the engine wasn't under powered. The head gasket did go when it was only 6 years old, but he was handy with a spanner.. |
