Default Cabriolet radio wiring muliplug.

As above i need the wiring multiplug (plugs into rear of cabriolet delta radio) and a few inches of the loom to help convert my 80 2.6 Avant to
accept a final edition Delta radio. Hopefully Mark (Mellis46) will see this and can confirm. If you could help that would be great.

Thanks in advance Mark.

Yep, would be a good starting point, although a factory plug from any Delta / Gamma equipped car would also serve (early A4 etc)

To get the Delta to power up in the 90, 2 extra wires were required in addition to the standard loom.

I'll post more in a few mins...

OK,

So did this to my 1989 90q, your wiring may be subtly different as its a later car - should be very similar I would hope

From the factory, the 90 has this arrangement in the power multiplug:

Red Wire - Permanent Live
Brown Wire - Negative (Chassis ground)
Grey/Blue - Illumination (Dimmable)
Blue/White - GALA (Speed signal)
White Wire - 12v to Rear Screen Aerial Booster

So 5 wires there.

The Delta needs all of that plus a couple more:

If we look at the sticker on the top of the Delta in my picture, the very top multiplug is the power plug.

Top row wires go, Negative (Brown), Illumination (Grey/Blue) S-Kont (Red, more on this below), Mute (Leave out unless you have the telephone system installed)

Bottom row, Permanent Live (Red/Blue), 12v Output to Aerial (White), Permanent Live (Red/Blue), Gala (Blue/White).

You can see the plug I made in the picture also, unfortunately it is upside down If you can get one of these you can either use the pins out of it to modify your existing multiplug or cut yours off and solder the new one on... Former being the preferred option I would have thought

Just a quick note on the S-Kont (or Key sense) wire - this is what serves as your "switched live", telling the unit to turn on and off. It is only a signal wire and carries very little current. Best place to pull this wire from is the ignition switch, the narrowest gauge RED wire exiting the black cap on the back of the switch is S-Kont.

Once wired in it works in a nice way, with the ignition on the radio is operable, When you turn off the radio stays on until the key is removed from the ignition

The radio can also be used for I think its half an hour without the ignition or key by working the power button on the radio.

Mark if you need me to make any of this clearer or you need more info please let me know.

The elephant in the room with this mod is the fact that the Delta can only run two (front) speakers directly, if your car doesn't have the factory amplified rear speaker setup you will need to either retro fit it or use the Delta's pre-outs and fit additional amplifier(s) to get the other speakers in the car to function (as I did)

In that case you'll also need one of these...

Mark, your a star and a gentleman, the explanation and pictures is really useful. Much appreciated mate!!

Having read all your text,i would rather use the pins out of an Fe cab plug, to modify my existing plug wiring if i've read right,
and would imagine i'm in the camp of needing the line out lead and a rear amplifier to run the rear speakers.

In the avant you should have a few options for hiding away the amp, the 90 has an extremely limited boot which is even more so now!!

Hi Mark,i've asked else where for one of these multiplugs and this is the answer i received. Hopefully you'll make head or tail of it?

"Is it just the black if with the single brown plug?"

It's just generic ISO plug, just go to the nearest junkyard and chop them off in some 90's european car, preferably audi, vw or vauxhall - you can also buy them in ebay or, likely, car parts or car audio store, only they could have a couple of wires missing, as, for example, GALA isn't used by aftermarket radios. My A90q got pair of ISO connectors from opel omega and my mk2 golf from mk3 golf.

I'm just wondering - why is all this needed for a B4 - is there still DIN connector there?

Hi mark, black / power connections, brown / speaker connections. You only need the black one?

Specifically its to retrofit the Audi Delta headunit as factory fitted to the Final Edition Cabriolet with all of its features, gala et al

The thinking being, if Mark gets an audi plug with all its pins populated in the right order for the delta, he can have an easier time modifying his existing plug. My experience, as described above, i thought could possibly help him if he encounters any differences in wire colour etc
