And the point of that? To make sure the starter has to make bigger effort to crank cold engine?
Currently I have cheap Eurol 5w40 synthetic oil in my engine, not only because normal winter temperatures over here are -10 - -20c [and I have no doubt that that's the only reason why I'm using my current battery], but also I want my engine clean of rubbish left by semi synthetic oils. In the future, when I'll do something with the engine, I'll change the oil to 5w40 synthetic made by something that has brand with more reputation - in my case I guess it will be castrol. Of course, over here the common knowledge is that in such a weak and expendable engine like any 2.2/2.3 10v NA engine should be dumped in some 10w40 rubbish - I guess nobody thinks about 15w40 mineral oil only because starter might be too weak to crank 5 pot engine with such an oil in it in winter cold, as I know that some engine haters put 15w40 in their 4 pot engines as well. |

Everything is a Slagging match with you isn't it
Over here even last winder it didn't go below -10C so shall we just ignore the temp scale from audi then Also 5w-40 is a little thick for those temps your subject to i'd go with a nice 0w40 make sure its fully synthetic mind as you wouldn't want to put crap like vw spec oil in (Anyway off to drain out the Shite oil i put in my car today) at least now i know after speaking to an audi Guru

As for good oils vs bad oils - I like that inside my engine it looks like that: With semi synthetic it is more likely to be black. |

Bringing old topic up, but I still didn't got it, what oil to get. My engine is 2.2 kv as well.
So, I don't care for price tag, but I want my classy 1986 going. Anyway, my question is what is considered premium, mid-range and cheap stuff (so I could know what to avoid). I am new car world, so there is so much to explore for me. |
