Default Cam Belt Change on 5 Cylinder

It's a while a go since I did this and I sold the special tools which I bought at the time...do I need the 'Special Tools' to do a cam belt change on my 2.0 JS 5 Cylinder engine or can I get by without? How should I stop the engine turning? Thanks

Don't do it, if the bolt is correctly tightened this method will likely cause damage to either flywheel, crank or main bearings.
I made myself a special tool which slots into the front damper. It works a treat and gets the job done properly, dependng on where you are you can borow it or I am sure someone on here will help out if nearer.

I think the special tool is about £60, the torque multiplier is not really needed if you have the right socket and wrench. Not keen on making my own as I can't yet weld...

Bollocks. Someone bought one a couple of weeks back. Try the bay of fleas.

I phoned VW and Audi and VAG2084 is no longer regognised, the part number has changed and neither could tell me what the new part number is... According to one website 2084 became obsolete early 2011. I would happily buy one off eBay but they do not come up very oftern.

Which is why it's likely it was not tightened properly .
If it was, using the screwdriver in flywheel method would likely cause damage somewhere When mine had to come off I was jumping up and down on a 3/4" drive and it went with a very loud crack and thought I'd broken something... But apparently thats normal for a correctly tightened bolt
