Leggy,
Some very brief details of the marque and model along with photos of what your work has produced should be fine. It will satisfy those with an interest and for those who aren't, well it doesn't matter..... It could be the basis of a portfolio for you to pass on with the car. Don't bother with service history details, bill of sale etc., keep that safe for when you may wish to sell. I just shoved all the paperwork I had for my B2 into a ring binder and stuck an Audi logo on the front. No special effort. The car has had 3 owners since and I heard all 3 were impressed by the folder, which surprised me. If it adds to YOUR pleasure of owning your Audi, then do what you want mate... |

I agree with Ringmaster.
If you are into that kind of thing then do it, if it will make you happy, other people who are into it will appreciate it, some random people will learn what your car is rather than just "old Audi, might be a quattro" And people who dont care will continue not to care.

Wow! where to start, so many replies, thanks guys!
Seems that the page 1 brigade are against the idea of a script/folder, whilst the page 2 brigade are all for it, so the jury (if you like) is still undecided on this one. As Ringmaster and Andy10v have said (thanks!), a folder doesn't have to contain everything, and I was already thinking of maybe just something (script?, folder?, notice board?, idk) with an introduction page (details of make/model, time of purchase, history timeline), followed by a bullet point list of works carried out in the past 2yrs and then however many pages of before/after photos showing the parts that I've replaced in the past 6mths by way of preparation for the AITP event....nothing too long winded, people loose interest very quickly if something appears to be too much effort to read. As I said, I'm still undecided, so let me throw in an alternative question: how do you showcase a 23yr old Audi 80 that has been owned/used as a 'daily' for the past 17yrs? Now handing this one back over to you guys... Last edited by leggy; 04-07-15 at 07:39 PM. Reason: Emphasizing my point |

How to showcase the car....hmmmmm
With my C3 I have a small noticeboard on which are just a few details about Audi, etc. Once I have polished and cleaned the car to within an inch of its life, I lean the board against the front bumper and hope for the best. Every so often I open the bonnet for people to see the engine bay. If the weather is good I raise an Audi flag nearby. Once they see the age of the car I hope they will appreciate its condition and that's usually as as far as I go. Most shows I've displayed at were not specific to Audi, so most people I have to say were not interested in the car. If there was interest it usually came from someone who had previously owned one or a youngster who is into the 1980s VW/Audi brand, especially after Life On Mars was broadcast. I have considered playing videos of vintage Audi TV ads from the 1980s, place magazines from the era in the car etc, but I guess you have to gauge who your audience will be and how much you want to spend and are you hoping to win a prize or not? It may take a few shows before you settle on how you want to approach this. Just don't take it too seriously. I've obtained my best results when I least expected it. |
