Agree with Dave's comments and I have also used synthetics in my MB for the last 20 odd years.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I'm looking for something concrete from Audi about this.
I know oil is a subject with lots of opinions, and I have now put in Magnatec 10w40, but i'd rest easier knowing if my memory is correct.

I also recall that the WR engine uses Platinum plugs, but not the MB. Again, finding it hard to see concrete proof of that, and I used Iridium plugs anyway!

Have had a look at my MB owners manual and the Lubricants page is near identical to the WR version from Colin with the exception that it also contains the comment;
'we strongly recommend using only the following factory -approved mineral or synthetic oils:'
Multigrade Oils need to meet spec VW 501 01
Improved Lubricity Oils to VW 500 00
High Performance Oils to VW 500 00 AND VW 505 00

So no instruction to only use synthetics.

Magnatec 10-40 now on sale at Halfords at £16.50 for 4 litres. Pretty good!!

EDIT-can't find it any cheaper than £25 now (January 2022) 2 years on, 22% increase PER YEAR.
Ouch. Electric motor anyone?
