1984 B2 Coupe GT 2.2 fuel injection
A week ago, as I hit the motorway and 75mph, the car suddenly started to hesitate and lose power (no probs or symptoms before then) the symptoms now are when starting cold, it runs ok for a few mins, for maybe a mile or so, it accelerates well in all gears, then suddenly starts to hesitate under acceleration, gets worse and worse, occasionally it will stall when pulling away.
I turn it off and back on, it will be ok again for a minuet or so, then the trouble starts over again. It idles fine. Fuel pump seems to be constant, filter is clean, petrol is good (even drained and refilled), plugs are good.. any ideas? |

Ooo.. That’s a dark distant fault from my GT years....
Something is saying coil or primary HT lead... Could well be wrong, but worth a check.

Or could it be the fuel pump relay perhaps? I had a similar problem when I first got my current 90. It would act the same and it got to the point when it wouldn't restart for a while after losing power and cutting out completely. The relay was getting hot and would only work again when it cooled down...? Replaced with a new one, available from audi at the time, hopefully still the case. Has never done it again since.

Further thought as occured on our B3 quattro, the wiring to the pump was failing when the car had been running for around 20 mins reducing the current to the pump so it could not supply sufficent fuel/pressure. I replaced the wiring from the fuse box to the pump, problem solved.
Alternatively the pump may be about to fail, not as common a fault on the B2 but on the B3 we replaced 3 pumps in the 12 years we owned one as a daily driver, again the pump fails when its been running a few minutes and its warmed up and is under load (pump in tank) unlikely as on the B2 the pump is in line and they are more reliable. |

Actually I had an ignition amplifier fail on another car a few years back, with similar symptoms, I have a spare, might even be the same one.
Fuel pump is not that old, but I was wondering if it’s a crap one, it seems to work but difficult to test as the problem only occurs in the move. |

No. Its still not working, have tried everything suggested except ignition amplifier module, which is next on the list.
