I wonder if the group B hadn't been scrapped, that little car might have saved BL. As did the Pug 205 save Peugot and Audi went on to become a world class car manufacturer thanks to the quattro.

Results in motorsports have a huge affect on the sales of cars.
I remember 20 years ago when my brother had a Subaru Justy 4WD.
hardly anyone had heard of Subaru and it was a bit of a joke of a car (although he showed us up with his 4WD!), but look at Subaru now. Known all over the world for it's success. Same as Mistubushi, just like Audi and Peugeot did back in the day.

What a fantastic car and if you watch the DVD of Colin on the 2006 Donegal you will not believe the speeds he gets up to. Even Nicky Grist is left speechless at one point at Colins 'over exuberance'. The Metro was never to be a world class beating rally car though as it was only naturally aspirated unlike it's other group B rivals. You just wound the boost up to breaking point on the Lancias, Audis, and Fords and held on. No such luxury in the Metro and they hated dust. On the 1986 Scottish Midland Rally not one Metro finished due to engine seizures through ingesting dust. But when you hear one, and you will, you will never forget the sound. A raw, barky V6 sound that goes through you and makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
And a little known fact is that they were so loud the drivers and co - drivers had to wear fighter pilot helmets to help deaden the sound.

wise words booty m8 having driven one thay where excellent car, i saw these car many times been rallied from the like of tony pond to alot of the welsh rally guys like peter lloyd and phill collins, . Many years ago up in eypnt both phill collins and some other guy raced all day laying 1 st and 2nd the only diff was one was on 19 ins alloys the other on 18ins . dis you know there is no speedo in the metro 6r4 and the only way you can tell the speed is from the trip meter on the nav side.

My line up of group B all time noise would be...In preferential order.

1, 44 WMN- Sport quattro , Mikkola Driving - 1986 Fram Welsh. Pure aural Nivana
2, 44 CMN - A2 quattro , Llewellin driving - 1985 Manx Rally. Start line noise is something to behold.
3, C98 COG - Computervision Metro 6R4 , Pond driving - 1986 Lombard RAC. Heaven pure heaven, he never, NEVER lets off the gas.
4, Sport quattro , Mouton driving - 1985 Scottish Midland. She was the Queen of bounce off the rev limiter.
5, Rothmans Porsche 911, Billy Coleman driving - 1985 Circuit of Ireland. Straight through exhausts that sounded like machine gun fire when backing off.

i could go on and on but those are the ones that stick in my mind. What's everyone elses??

Hmm, much as I like the 5 pot warble, the sound of a 6R4 being hammered around a stage is just incredible.

I do a few stage rallies and each season there are always a couple about. Still ultra competative so many years on and makes Group A Cossies and Celicas seem very boring.
