Default Octane Magazine stoops to News of The World low!!

Phone tapping, paying for info? Who really knows, but nevertheless, To coin a phrase from one of my favourite comedians Steve Coogan, whilst giving evidence at the Leveson Enquiry......Tawdry, muck racking tabloid filth!

Tut tut Octane magazine!!!!

Issue 102 December 2011
Page 20

First Works Q(?!)uattro
Specialist car broker Mark Donaldson, would like to make it clear that the first Audi Q(there it is again!)uattro rally car, (IN-NE-3) which he is selling(see Dealer News Octane 101), was not one of the Q(F FKS SAKE!)uattros in the Historic Motorsport Collection, subsequently sold to Audi..end.

I'd like to have been a news of the World Jerno tapping that conversation between Mr Donaldsons, "client" and Octanes editor!!! I wonder if Sir Brian Henry QC has been summoned to receive evidence yet!?

Smoke and mirrors Steve, smoke and mirrors.
Create a bit of mystique and intrigue, and voila! a whole new audience and potential purchasers!
Wonder if the urban myth that Michelle mouton once sat on the cow that ultimately gave its life to become the seat squab in Tracy's Audi will add £10k to its value????

I think more like Octane or MD might have just innocently added two and two and dared to get five, not realising perhaps, what i presume, must have been the catalyst to someones apperplectic rage, judging by tales of what happened when a massive German car company dared to question origin of said vehicle. Of course it's all supposition on my part as I haven't seen the original article nor have any idea where it's content was sourced....clearly it points to the original car being connected to the Sutton collection, of which the origins and remaining originality of those vehicles have been called into question......Someone got it wrong, again!......The clarification by Octane I read this morning just made me chuckle as I ate my breakfast, thinking of its owner, perhaps chocking on his, after reading about his car, being linked to similar cars, just fitted with famous number plates, that Audi bought back!....er hum.... Halledgedley!!!!

Somewhat similar to the Auto Union that featured. On 'Chasing Classic Cars' that was supposed to be race-winning chassis number xxxxx but who's provenance was called into question just before it was due to be auctioned!

I've forgotten the exact quote and the quotee - but I think it was about one iteration of the GT-40:

"There were twelve cars built and I know where all nineteen of them are."

I do know for a fact that there's one GT-40 in which the ONLY original metal is the A-pillar with the chassis number stamped in it.

As for quattros, I see a lot and there are lots and lots of funnies. A 20V with 26k miles on the clock and an utterly failed clutch release bearing? A car (in Liverpool, naturally) that's almost 5mm longer one side than the other. Beats the previous record of 2mm. A car with a 1984 V5c but a sloping front and a late 1987 ABS accelerometer under the rear seat - platinum leather seats?

Lol!!!

I'm the same to be fair Phil, could sh@g a town down in my head, but upon closer examination of the actual article and scrutiny of its provenance, the scrappage scheme seems the only viable option!!
