Car ramps

Does anyone on here still use car ramps ? Not a ramp that lifts the car into the air but the small ramps you reverse the car onto to lift the back of it (or if you have the gap lift the front), do you know what i mean ?

Are they safe ?

Can you still buy them ?

Any help appreciated

I sometimes use mine. It depends on the job. I have blocks of wood that I wedge against the ramps and drive onto them first. My S2 used to catch on the ramp due to the angle hence the wood.

They also help hold the ramp in place. They're perfectly safe once the car is on. Stick it in gear or chock the wheels.

I've had an A8 on them with no issues.

I have a set and use them for outside jobs like power wash underneath. Bought them in Halfords about 30 years ago and still solid

Had my set for 30 years and use them for oil changes and certain jobs. Over the years cars have got a lot lower and bumpers lower too so have had to use
pieces of 8"x 2" that are roughly 24" long, placed on one of the lower rungs of the ramp so modern cars can clear the ramps as they go up.

For your timber Buy some 8 x 2 ( C24 ) certified construction grade timber for insurance, able to take the weight, and jobs a good un.

I still use the ramps I bought to use with my first car (1947 Series E Morris 8) in 1969. I've painted them a couple of times since then but still sound. I use a piece of 7-ply on each one to stop them sliding forwards as I drive on to them.

I got a railway sleeper, and chopped it in half at an angle, as ramp extenders. The angle gives me an initial run up onto the sleeper as a first level. I chiselled out a recess in the extenders to hook into the standard ramps.

The quattro was awkward to get on the ramps, but the V8 was impossible.

I forgot. This is the MkII version. MkI is used to lift the other end, so that there’s some crawl room under both ends.

i use ramps occasionally, and a jack with axle stands.
each has its benefits-i couldn't have spun my wheels to test ABS on ramps, but my ramps give me more space to crawl underneath.

I have a very stoopid question to ask now

Has anybody ever gone too far as in off the back of the ramps ? I will be on my own when doing this.

Mine have a "stop" built in, never driven off the end yet.......

Same with mine, never done it yet!!
I find that they get used quite regularly, more for my IX35 then the quattro though
