Default 84" Garage door pain.

I suspect many of you have been here before, but i'll share.
Our up and over garage door decided to break a wire.

I bought a spindle and cone kit for £18 quid... I've done it before, how hard can it be?

Weeelll, for starters, the new spindles in the pack weren't machined for the spring clip, then the old cone spring cotter pin fell apart as I tried to drive it out, the door decided to act like a 200lb dead flatfish, then the spring tensioner would only tension one side until I torgued it up to launch the next apollo mission and flooded it with WD40, staining the fibreglass, then I smashed seven bails of shit out my right thumb, it probably needs a stitch or two, but whatever, then, finally, after five hours of fine tuning the spring and cables like a badly behaved Bosch K Jet fuel injection, it slowly, ever so slowly capitulated until it now works once again like a normal garage door.

£18 quid and 5 hours of misery ...

Lovely Saturday....

I'm thinking £250 with a garage door specialist would have been money well spent.

I gave up trying to repair mine in the end.
Too much

Ripped it out and fitted a Gliderol roller door - turned out to be a good decision.
Can park right up to it & still get in the garage and have loads more high storage space

Hope your is ok

...drives locos, thinks he's an engineer...

Did you get blood anywhere?
I always work on the principal that if I'm going to damage myself, it should hurt lots, and leave a scar.

Plus...
Haven't you got minions? With the quattro away being tidied up, surely they have spare time from car washing duties to help 'the olds' with basic maintenance duties, and then you could sit back and manage.

Ya brung it on ya self!

Even with gloves on I managed to 'burst' the side of my thumb, fortunately the glove just filled up with blood and congealed which was a result.

As for the minions, like you they made much hilarity over my 'beaver-tail' thumb.

I'll wait, then serve my revenge cold.

Similar here. It cost £££ but will enable me to get a lift in. Frees up a surprising amount of space as you say.
