Great info thanks guys. At this point I have to embarrassingly say I am not a mechanic- take a wheel off is about as far as I go. I have never taken a door card off before and wouldnt know where to start? Pain to have to do it as well as my door card is already all torn to bits

Park on a solid piece of ground where you can open the door and walk around comfortably.
From memory:-
You'll need a posi screwdriver to remove the small screw in the side of the doorcard near the lock.
Also, posi driver to remove the screw behind the door card handle trigger.
Then a long series allen key or socket to get into the two very small holes on the underside and side of the doorcard grab handle to remove it. They're right underneath and in order to locate the allen key you might have to lay upside down and shine a bright torch into the small holes to align it. Occasionally these have been replaced so if you're having trouble just make sure they haven't been swapped with screws etc.
When revealed remove the little l shaped bracket with the posi driver.
Unhook the door trigger cable and put the little clip that holds it in place into a safe place.
The doorcard can then be pushed/pulled vertically upwards and out of the way.

Refitting is the reverse but make sure when you lower the doorcard vertically downwards into place the lock/unlock rod goes through the little hole at the top of the doorcard.

Don't think ive forgotten anything but you'd soon work it out anyway.

It's the cables and/or plastic guides that normally snap on the window regulators as opposed to the motor failing, particularly on Coupes/Cabs

That's pretty much it but I have to be a bit anal here (I'll not apologise for it but I am naturally anal!) This is a real bugbear of mine. The correct screwdriver to use is a Phillips (no.2 in this case) not a Pozi-Drive. I don't think Audi have ever used Pozi-Drive screws. If anybody is interested the details are here:
