Input shaft oil seal ? obsolete ?
My Audi is spewing gearbox oil out around the bellhousing im guessing its the input shaft oil seal.
Ive spoken to vagparts today and they are telling me its now obsolete, what a pain in the ass !! Think the best thing to do now is take the seal into a transmission/ bearing specialist to see if they can match one up or make one. Trouble is i dont want the car off the road for too long as i need it for work ! Ideally i could do with a pattern first of all, if anyone happens to have a knackered gearbox lying around Its a gearbox from a 1987 coupe gt 2.2, also if anyone can confirm the gearbox code that would help too. |

This is the problem you see. I dont want to remove the gearbox and try to prise the seal out carefully as i may damage it meaning the car could be off the road for a long period until a replacement is found.

oil seal 45X60X8 / I believe thats the seal.... The figure below part number indicates seal sizes so any seal manufacturer could make a new one up if need be. 5speed manual transmission. VW,2V,QF,2W, HC,HD,3N, 3Z,ABV All those gearbox codes the seal relates to....

They look to be a standard seal.... Used in a load of gearboxes, and i'd hazard a guess a seal manufacturer would make one for under £20...
