B4 Electric window swap
Hi guys. I'm about to pick up a 95 TDI B4 with manual window winders. I also own a scrap B4 with electric front windows.
I am hoping to do a swap over. Apart from swapping the door cards and possibly the window mechanism, what sort of other things will need changing? Is it a big job to wire it up correctly. |

Apart from mechanisms and door cards you need to change the loom. How do you do that, it's up to you and your taste - proper way is to remove dashboard and heater to remove it, and then do the same on your car to fit all that - because wiring is BEHIND the carpet and sound deadening, and sound deadening goes up to the window.
Loom from the donor, since it's just two windows, can be removed without removing dash and heater by carefully taking apart connector of the passenger side, writing down locations and colours before, and then pulling out that part of the loom until it's out. Just follow the wires. And if you don't mind that that part of loom, consisting of three wires, is in the place where it's not supposed to be [under/behind heater, not sound deadening], then you can leave dashboard of your car in place as well. Wiring up windows is quite simple thing - just ground, power, ignition, drivers door open switch and, if your donor is early B4, also alternator exciter wire. |
