4 one end, three the other-7 pins like the new one just bought, but arranged differently.
If you can be bothered (I can't) you could find the pin layout of the new one and make it work with your car.

This is the pinout for the audi, I think

Nah. Too much work for me that
With the majority of things car related, if it's available off the shelf, I'd much rather spend a few notes than get into the gubbins of things.

Your thought was appreciated however

I'd expect way more than 100k from electrical stuff like ignition amplifiers. My 90 20v still has the original.
The mileage on your car is astounding! Don't know if I'll even live long enough to get any where near that with my cars. Would be nice to think I could though

The ignition module was a suspect because my garage pointed it out as something that they had occasionally replaced on Audi's of our vintage, back when the cars were younger and they had a few more through their doors than they do these days.
Hopefully I don't need one though. I've got better things to spend £70-£100 on....like fixing my odometer, which happily stopped working last night. I would have expected that to last a lot longer too!

New post (and cry for help) coming up about that as I speak. Well...type.

Can I just ask if the 'A' version (4A0 905 351 A) part is suitable for my 2.6E b4 Saloon?

I'm getting myself in a ridiculously confused state over this part suitability. It's just not funny anymore!

I don't know what the internal differences are if any.

I wouldn't use it if it was my car

Just read through this and readers rides. Welcome to the turbine smooth ABC 6 cylinder.

These engines and electrics are extremely robust and built to last apart from the Hall sender that sits behind the right hand bank cylinder head. I've owned one for near 20 years now and thats my experience of them.

I see you have bought many service items, great stuff, have you done the fuel filter change yet? These can cause a misfire. I'd also check that all injectors are working, could be one has a faulty wire connection. Just unplug one at a time and have a look at the loom at that point.

Found your post!

Thanks again for this information. I'm quite elated to hear that this is a common fault with my engine, and to hear from someone who has experienced it first hand is always heart lifting.

I promise I will keep everyone updated once things progress.

Many thanks,
Alan
