Default Won't come out of Park!

Not been on for a while, as my Cab has been in regular use, without any issues
Came to use it for a couple of days away with the wife, and gear selector wouldn't move from Park!! Had to move all bags etc into the A4
The auto check also didn't clear the brake light test, so I am assuming its related to that.
Could it be the brake switch?? Or more involved(ie expensive)?
How big a job to fit new switch?

Run a check and see what fault codes are coming up.

Thanks Andy,
Unfortunately, I don't have a tester, and obviously car is now stuck on my drive, so can't get it to a garage

(being on Anglesey, there aren't many about who are interested in proper cars)

Ok try disconnecting the battery overnight to try and reset the ECU. This may clear the fault that's been thrown up thats locked out the box. Is the car on the flat or on a hill and parked on the gearbox rather than the handbrake?

Isn't there a switch which opens when the brake pedal is depressed which then allows you to move from P to R, N or D?

Sounds like this switch is the problem.

Thanks Guys,
Will try the battery when we get home on Tuesday.
I am hoping it's no more than the switch

Car is on a very slight slope, and parked on the gearbox. Although I have had the handbrake on to lower the roof( and then raise again once I realised we wouldnt be enjoying an open top drive along the A55)

Its possible the box has simply locked against the park, try pushing the car up hill and seeing if it will then release out of park.

Many manufactures incorporate an emergency release so the stick can be moved out of park.....don't know if the 80 will have it but try looking for a small hole somewhere around the trim which surround the stick. Sometimes it's big enough for a pencil but may be as small that only an unraveled paper clip will fit......anyway pushing the appropriate sized thing in here should release the stick from the P position.
Not a permanent fix obviously as it'll jam again as soon as it's put back into park but at least it would get the car moving if you need it shifted?

Can you hear the switch click when you press down the brake pedal? If not, then I agree with Coxy - could be a faulty switch.
