Audi Coupe Gt Front Anti Roll Bar Drop Link Upgrade
Well here I go again, will this upgrade work or not, there is a good chance that I will end in the gravel trap at Forestburn hill climb, anyway looking to reduce the play in the anti roll bar rubber bushes in the wish bone and anti roll bar end eye bush, my thoughts are to remove them and replace them with a drop link like most modern cars have, been looking for a while for the correct drop link and found one that suited my needs, one end needs cut off and m10 thread about 75mm of the drop link rod, then needed to weld a 3mm plate into the wishbone with 10mm hole to fix the ball joint end of the drop link, the anti roll bar fitted to the car is 26mm from a Ur quattro, photo are below, comment are always welcome, not had time to road test yet but after jacking up the suspension strut and rotating the steering wheel nothing seems to hit the new drop link, I do like double nuts rather than nyloc nuts as you will see.

Neat job; presumably when the weight is back on the suspension, the drop link is at a right angle to the wishbone?

Well, there's a good reason why all drop links have some movable joint at each end, even if it's bushing - the angle between ARB and link will surely change, due to ARB ends moving in an arc. I understand that this is quick upgrade solely for performance reasons; if I would be you, I'll go for some parts from B4 2.8 - front struts, G60 brakes, 26 mm ARB [the same as S2] and since it's two piece strut setup, it will have ARB with links - driveshafts unfortunately would be required as well.
P.S. Single piece strut suspension had 26 mm ARB on all quattros, not just UR, my early B3 A90q also had one. |

Been down that route with the two piece strut, hubs are further out 5 to 7mm and drive shafts need cut and shortened, that is why I have went down this route, the drop link lines up 90 deg. to the anti roll bar end eye, I removed the coil springs from the struts and refitted the struts and jacked them up and down with my gear box lift whilst rotating the steering wheel and all seems fine, but we will see there is always something that comes along and bites you in the ass.

In my own mind it will be better than the bushed drop link and may be hard to convince me other wise, but the question you want to ask is the ball end drop link better that the bushed drop link, I need to say yes but some day in the future I will ask a forum member to do a little post to confirm after a drive, the front of the car is more flat in the corners low or high speed but the reel test will be in the wet if I can get the power down quicker on corner exit and not light up the inside tire as much or dose the new set up light up both tires at the same time, well need to wait till it rains to find out, that won't take much of a wait.
