Porsche 996 calipers (what size wheels) B4 coupe
Hey all,
So the rebuild of my beloved 16v coupe has begun (build thread to follow once I start getting stuck in fully) I am starting to gather required parts while bits are getting powder coated and built etc. One thing on the list is brakes. I have a pair of boxster S 986 rears with brackets etc and I have a set of mk2 focus RS 324mm discs. Because i can't do a mock up as i have no suspension parts i was wondering what size wheels i can get away with? I have a set of 16" BBS V8 8" wide that I'd like to put on. I have the adaptors already that will push the wheel out 20mm which I've been told is required anyway while fitting 986 calipers. I've mocked the setup using the inside wheel and it clears the inside easily by about an inch (wheel to caliper). In my head it fits but before I send the calipers off for a rebuild I want to be sure and if anyone else has done it using 16" wheels. Thanks in advance Last edited by Peacedub; 20-05-19 at 09:26 AM. |

with a 323mm disc, you really are pushing the limits to fit a 16" wheel. You might find a 16" wheel that could give the clearance but 17" would be a better choice

I do have a set of 17's but I'm set on the 16s because they are oem. The 17's were just a spare set. The makeshift mock up looked like they will be ok with clearance of the rim and because I have 20mm adaptors its far away enough from the face. I'll just have to hold off until I've rebuilt the front up and do a real mock up

I'd say no, 323mm on a 16" Oem Audi wheel?
What wheel is it your thinking of using? |

And just for reference purposes the calipers will be 986 ones if they’re off of a Boxster, red in colour if they’re an S, black for non S models.
The 996 ones can be different and bigger (it’s a 911 rather than a Boxster) |

I've done some serious digging around and everything is pointing to yes it can be done. I plan to use Audi V8 wheels 16" by 8" wide ET35 with a 20mm adaptor. They don't have chunky spokes so less risk of face hitting calipers. I've really got my heart set on these wheels

Apologies, you are correct. Part number 996.352.421 & 422. (986 boxster S rears)

So after much debate (with myself ) these are now up for sale. They come with all the bolts, Proper caliper mounting brackets (Creation motorsport, Not self made ones), brand new Pagid pads and a pair of new mk1 Focus discs (324mm x 28mm) if you want them? Condition of calipers is used and not refurbed, all pistons moved freely and the brake fluid that came out of them were clear. Colour are red with a black/anthracite face where the Porsche logo is. Because I'm a pleb and only use my phone I can't upload pics so its best to message me and i'll wattsap pics across. I'm after £350 for the lot which will go toward my standards being refurbished
