Default Auto box

Greetings all!

When I joined this forum I mentioned that I had a problem with my auto box (a low rattle like sound), so I took it to a recommended auto box specialist.

Anyway, they blinded me with techno speak, but it all boiled down to it probably being a low oil level in the final drive, resulting in some metal on metal contact, which equalled noise, which may be 90% curable. If not, we were looking at some major credit crunching work. As the box otherwise worked perfectly they were hopeful.

They put in a litre of oil and test drove it for a while. It wasn't perfect but they hoped I should notice an improvement over time. Lo and behold, nearly 6 months later the noise has all but gone. I tend to hear it now when accelerating or going uphill rather than all the time. Fingers crossed, I may just have avoided a major problem.

So don't forget those final drive oil levels!

Anyone with a similar experience out there? Do you share my optimism?
