Default A4 2.5 TDI (180) cam shaft (sorry not classic but sure one of you guys will help)

Hi folks,

I am very sorry this is regards a B6 2.5 TDI (180) and is a bit more modern but know one of you guys will have seen this before. The engine seems to have a very worn cam shaft. The car belongs to a mate of mine and has done about 150,000 if I remember right.

I have not seen this before and although to me does not look good I am not sure if he should be worrying about this or not. He found this while replacing an injector.

Huge thanks in advance for any help.

Mark

2.5 TDI s are notorious for cam wear. The shrapnel can also damage the oil pump.

Have a quick google of 2.5 tdi cam camshaft wear for more info that you really want.

Or, to be more correct, this is frequent, not normal thing. It's not normal to have rocker arms falling off and possibly falling in some moving parts, fucking up the engine.

The solution is set of new cams + set of rocker arms + tappets. In total somewhere around grand + work.

I hope this happened due to mileage and not due to your mate using wrong oil.

Thanks for the heads up guys. He has not owned the car long so coming as a bit of a shock I think.

Cheers again

This was a known issue on early 2.5's. Audi had sorted the cams by 2004 so the last of the 2.5's should be ok, unfortunately it will have to be sorted as theyll only get worse and £1k is about right to fix, especially as it will also include cambelts and tensioner replacemnt.
