Believe it or not a car sold from someone on here with an mot, that i worked on after the event had even worse rear brakes, much worse!

Cracked on again this morning.

Stripped off the nearside front strut, rebuilt that, the bump stop for the strut is shot so new one of them ordered, waiting for various brake bits to arrive to finish that off and do a fluid change.

Did the track rod end on this side, did buy a pair but the offside’s almost new so left well alone there.

New idle valve arrived and installed, much steadier now.

Headlamps, grill and front repainted crossbar on, it's got it's face back.

Noticed that the exhaust was fouling the heat shield beside the cat, it's been poorly aligned and out of 4 exhaust rubbers, the two rears are splitting and just about shot, the one on the rear of the middle box is wrong and looks like a silicon rubber band, the one in front of the silencer is AWOL.

4 new ones in the post, once it's hung properly it'll line up happily enough, most of it looks new.

New wiper blades on with repainted arms (looks good)

Did an oil/filter change, coolant change (after running the hose through the system) proper G48 spec fluid in and bled, fuel filter replaced.

The previous owner fitted a cooling fan bypass/manual switch, I assumed that there was a problem but not that I can see. Spent some time playing with the fan thermostatic switch, a multi meter, a heat gun and an IR thermometer but it appears to be doing it's job when it should.

Started fitting some of my painted bits.

Ordered the roof lining as it's getting near interior time.

Some serious cleaning, seats to rebuild, my rear shelf bracket has arrived so it can be done and the roof lining are the obvious jobs so far.

To be fair, there’s glimmers of something quite smart starting to appear and don’t tell anybody but the cars a pleasure to work on. The abscence of any meaningful corrosion on the shell or any fasteners has been a real boon.

Remember than whole mission creep thing with E-LAD?

Well..............

Brake bits arrived, rear caliper with new seal and piston and all lovely and smooth. Only thing to watch for doing these is cleanliness and being careful to not mark the bore of the caliper or the piston taking the old seal out. There's a special red grease that come with the kits usually that you need to use and you need to transfer over the handbrake thread from the back of the old piston to the new, you need long circlip pliers for that.

When putting the outer seal back in, put it onto the piston first so the top lip catches on the retaining groove, carefully pull it back down the piston until the lower lip for the seal is over the bottom of it, offer it up and feed the seal in first and then push the piston home whilst rotating it gently clockwise, it'll go in!

A little bit of copper slip on all of the brake bleed nipples and job done there.

Roof lining out, much easier to do on the Coupe compared to the saloon due to the rear hatch, it's also flatter than the saloon so re-trimming it will be easier.

Noticed signs of water penetration from the sunroof and corrosion at the leading edge of the sunroof cartridge tray, so........

Its been sanded back and the rust treated, painted tomorrow and rebuild from there.

Played with the back of one of the spare seats to see about tightening up the map pocket net. 2 screws at the bottom, use a pick to ease the material off from the groove and the seatback comes away. The surround for the net is plastic welded in place, just cut one top mount back until you can pull it through, this gives you access to the top cord and just tighten and refasten. A hot glue gun to remount it and job done, literally 20 mins work.

What I am enjoying is fixing things as well as just replacing them.

Things like refurbing the caliper, the door trims and the seat backs for instance, it’s very satisfying.
