2.6 ABC to 2.8 AAH conversion.
So, i currently have a 2.6e. A modified 2.8 AAH has come up for sale locally. Not 100% on spec but it has cams (probably mild ones) double valve springs and hi compression.
As I understand it to swap them over I need the 2.8 ecu and loom to run the 2.8 funny inlet system and MAF. Which is why people don't bother cos its the same amount of work to put the 2.8 30v in. But I have enough projects on the go at the moment. So: What if i put this 2.8 12v in and run the 2.6 inlet, could I use the 2.6 ECU and no MAF? Anyone know a reason why that wouldn't work? Or any reason why I can't just swap the heads over? Any experience much appreciated |

I would go with Your first option - use the inlets from 2.6.
Pretty sure it will run as it should, as everything else is pretty the same. |

Here's what I've learnt so far.:
"2.8 v6 AAH Audi engine, freshly rebuilt for High compression. Kent cams, solid lifters and double valve springs." High compression, so presumeably its had the heads skimmed and solid shims to adjust spring load? That and the fact it was built for some sort of grass track car with carbs, makes me think the cams will be too hot for my standard ECU. Also: " It was Built with wrong head gaskets which went on startup." Presumeably gaskets were provided by the customer, which is why it didn't get rectified? If he can't figure out what cams went in it I might just offer something to acquire a cheap 2.8 bottom end at least? And use my heads and maybe some more 'roady' cams, with a lightened single Mass fly wheel.... Hmm decisions... |

Yes, that's another option.
Or, get the correct head gaskets for another engine, shim heads a bit so You get higher compression, put on Your inlets and job done. Long time ago I did a bit higher compression to my 2.8 coupe and it made the engine much more alive.. |
