Default Gordon Whitworth

It's with a heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Gordon passed away last Friday.

As we're all aware, he'd been very ill, battling very aggressive cancer for a while and carrying on with amazing verve, travelling Europe and giving us the low down on his escapades from race meets etc. He did this despite the pain and treatment he was receiving and had done all this with a smile on his face and a surprising spring in his step.
I had been up to see him a few times in the Clatterbridge hospital in Cheshire when he started to get a bit worse - a tumour affected his spine, restricting his movement and finally taking the use of his right leg. Again, not one for giving up, he had the quattro, A4 and beloved Ferrari booked in for hand controls to be fitted!! Sadly, the treatment he needed had a very bad affect on his skin in the last 2 days and he suffered a heart attack last Tuesday (even then he was thinking of others and text me to wish me luck at hospital - what a fella!)

I would like to say from a personal point of view that Gordon, although by his own admittance difficult to get through to at the start, was a brilliant and thoughtful individual that is rare to find these days. He had some great stories from his decades of race marshalling and was generally a top bloke. He will be sorely missed.

I have details of the funeral if anyone is interested in going. I've spoken to his family and they'd be delighted fir anyone from his car side of life to attend. All are welcome!

As his family were not as into cars as he, they are not aware of of his forum use so much so it'd be nice to show them that people cared about him.

My thoughts are with his family and Gordon, if you can see this where you are..... You are missed mate and every time I watch the Grand Prix or LeMans, I'll think of you!

Gutted, really am. Gordon was one of the first people I met when forming this place. He's been to most of the Breakfast Club meets and have had plenty of laughs with him over the past 4 years. Despite his illness, nothing could keep him down.
A least he made the most of his final years and went out with a smile.
A superb man with bags of character and passion.
He will be sadly missed.

Can you post up details of the funeral as I'm sure there will be a number of people here who would like to pay their respects.

Funeral is on Monday 27th June at 11am.

At: The Crematorium, Blacon Chester.

There's a gathering afterwards too that his Sister and Brother In Law would be delighted if anyone attended so everyone can share memeories of Gordon as they were not so much into the car side of his life.

Very, very sad news It was always great to meet up with Gord at various local meets. He had a great sense of humour, really loved his quattro, and as been said, always had a great tale to tell of his escapades at various race meetings over the years.

He'd lost a lot of weight last time I saw him, and it was clear that he wasn't very well at all. But throughout he still remained as chipper as ever and made the very most of things that he could, especially with buying and enjoying his Ferrari whilst he could.

Smashing fella, will be very sorely missed indeed.
Condolences to all his family at this time.

Yeah, he did lose alot of weight, but in fairness he was then given the all-clear for a while and he was taken off the Chemo. He put a bit of weight back on and looked very well indeed! And happy! It's just that the tumour in his spine then caused lots of issues and seemed to talke hold very quickly.

As said though, he always had a very matter of fact and strong outlook. I have no idea how he mamaged to keep so upbeat but he did so very well!

Very, very sad to hear about Gordon. He was one of life's good guys. The world is a poorer place without him. A very straight and sincere man.

I'm totally lost for words, I spoke to him a some months ago when we were discussing how he might go about keeping his licence for a bit longer after exploring the Ferraris performance envelope and getting pinged by the dreaded laser!!!.....

A straight John Bull, say it how it is bloke. He will be sadly missed.
