Getting an Audi 80 TDI
Hi,
This is my fist post on here and I am joining in as in a few weeks time I will be getting an 1994 Audi 80 tdi SE from a friend. I know the following about the car: it is in good visual condition, everything works, it has 160K miles and it has had the oil changed once a year. It had no advisories at the last mot a few months ago. Other than some new brake pads it hasn't had any other maintencance in the last 3 years (30K miles) which is how long my friend has had it. Can anybody advise what is should do to keep it going for many more years? I'll be doing about 15K miles a year in it. Thanks for any advice. |

Hi and welcome (what's your name and where are you?).
80 TDIs are bombproof. Here is a thread about my cheap one: http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/...ad.php?t=16785 I have had it 6 months and spent £160 on an oil change and rear pads (and freeing off calipers). Front brakes are solid discs so I have some vented ones to go on. Just keep changing the oil and filter every 6000 miles and possibly get the cambridge and water pump done (unless you have evidence of when they were done). Awesome cars! I am fitting Audi A4 110bhp injectors to mine and getting a remap at some point. I get 47mpg if I thrash it and 50mpg if frugal. Cheers and welcome!!! Steve

Welcome to the forum. I had a 1995 80 TDi for 18 months. Cheap as chips to run. Cracking car and you can't really go wrong with them. |

Thanks for the tips.
I plan to keep it standard for the moment but I can see the benefit of the vented front discs. What discs are you getting and are they a straight fit? Can you also advise what is the recommended cambelt change interval? I'm based in Edinburgh and haven't seen an audi 80 for ages round here. Cheers |

Girling 60 calipers off an S2 and 276mm 4x108 discs off a coupe 20 valve.
Bolt straight on. Cambelt is every 60k or 4 years. About £350 all in including parts (inc water pump) and labour near me in Bristol.

Cambelt is piece of mind.
Also, saloon or avant?

i'll give you a piece of mind.. what's a cambridge..?!?
hello einburger! i'm going to end up in an 80 tdi at some point too, i can tell. they do seem cheap to run. anything that breaks or falls off you'll get any help you need on here, in fixing it or finding parts. if there was a forum like this for every old car, and people used them, nobody would buy new cars. i think.. |
