I think we'd do well to simply fire all the Media, give 'em road sweeping jobs.

Even when they aren't making it up, the quality of research in news items is so utterly dire, often unsubstantiated, and so full of implausible conclusions that just happen to be extraordinarily dramatic, that whatever actual news value exists has been lost.
And the average muppet, of which the population seems to be increasingly comprised of, sucks it up.

How about a massive fine? Say 10% of annual profit. That would make all them think.

Newspapers should be compelled to print retraction across their entire front pages.

After the phone hacking scandal of a few years back, anyone with a reasonable moral makeup would rightly have expected the industry to clean up its act.
Sadly, there are humans involved, which largely precludes any further true evolution of the species. Just change.

I think the roman solution could well be applied here also. Weekly decimation of journalists.

Other groups worthy of such disciplinary processes for failing to set or meet good standards.

Traffic wardens
MPs
Lawyers
Middle managers
Latvians
Baggage handlers
Airport security
Siblings

We could sort the planet out in fairly short order.
