Default 90 ARB on an 80

I took the ARB off my 80 Sport last night. It is 22mm.

The ARB on my 80CL is 21mm. Obviously 22mm is better than 21mm.

The 90 ARB is fitted using drop links, but I reckon it would fit the 80 by using some rubber bushes direct to the wishbone. Or get hold of some 90 wishbones.

Is it possible (and worth it) to fit an ARB on the rear of the 2WD 80?

Does anyone with a 90 quattro have a photo of how the ARB is fitted to the wishbone (is it an alloy wishbone?)
Cheers

Only if you want more understeer. As you turn into a corner and the weight transfers to the outer wheel, a thicker arb will unload the inside wheel more so reducing grip. If you change all four springs and dampers over as well then it should all match up.

Adding a rear arb will promote oversteer, again you need to match up the spring rates and dampers to make it safe and predictable.

Basically, just adding the thicker arb on its own will mess up the balance of the car.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply.

I will be putting the 80 Sport suspension (I think it is standard springs with Bilstein shocks) onto the 80CL, and at that point I will put the 22mm ARB on, so it is balanced.

I will also put polybushes on too, to sharpen up the handling.
Cheers
