Default Brake Switch CQ - help please!

Hi all

Have an ongoing problem with brake light switch on the CQ. Noticed the brake lights were stuck on when I got home when I bought her, took kick panel out to find the switch had popped out of the pedal. Thought it was a worn thread so ordered another one and gently screwed it into the pedal. Obviously I didn't screw it in too far as this would physically push the pedal down.

This has been doing my head in for days! It keeps popping out which must mean there is a worn thread inside the clip in the pedal. Was going to put a circlip on the end of the thread on the switch but it doesn't go far enough through the pedal in order to clip one on! Do I need a new clip/holder which is in the pedal? Perhaps it doesn't even have a thread?!

Any help would be much appreciated, need to get it sorted ASAP.

Cheers

I take it once the switch has moved back and forth in the clip it wrecks it.

Get a new clip if you haven't already

slightly dodgy scan, quite hard getting a 1600 page manual in the lexmark scanning bit

Thanks for your reply Rickman and the drawing showing the parts. Looks like I need a new clip then, will probably put it in the parts wanted section, not much point getting it touch with Audi for them to tell me that are NLA, or if they're not...that'll be £20 sir!!!

you'd be surprised. There's all sorts of bit's that aren't NLA (probably because they don't fail that often, and so stocks are still in existance)

Brake parts like clips for brake pipes etc.

It is always worth checking every resource/contact etc. Chances are it's only a couple of quid.
The other worthwhile point to note is that it won't be part designed for the CQ. It will be most likely be common to loads of VWAudi, like the switch. And maybe a dozen other makes too.

Bought the aftermarket one. I know I could have got the Audi one but it was almost four times the price and there's very little difference between the original and the new aftermarket switch. After getting the new one, it came to light that it's not the switch that's at fault after all...it's the bloody clip! All I need now is a new clip in the pedal!

You're right Mark, there's a lot of VW/Audis that share the same switch/clip which is good as it means it should be readily available.
